12/May/07: 7TH ANNUAL SILVER LAKE FILM FESTIVAL CLOSES WITH SCREENING OF "X-THE UNHEARD MUSIC" LOS ANGELES – Saturday, May 12th - The 7th Annual Silver Lake Film Festival presented its Closing Night program with a screening of “X: The Unheard Music,” the documentary feature by director Bill Morgan about the seminal Los Angeles punk band. The band’s co-founder and frontman, John Doe, today a respected actor with more than 40 feature films to his credits, was honored with the festival Spirit of Silver Lake Award for expanding the boundaries of independent film and music. Doe was one of six recipients of the Spirit of Silver Lake Award at this year’s festival. The other honorees were Hal Hartley and Parker Posey, who received their awards in during the Opening Night presentation of the Los Angeles premiere of “Fay Grim”; Keith Morris, founder of the Circle Jerks, who played during the first night of the film festival’s parallel MusicFest; punk Latina Alice Bag, who was honored during a Cinco de Mayo showcase of alt Latino bands, and Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, co-directors of “Little Miss Sunshine,” who received their awards during a showcase of their music videos. The Closing Night program included the presentation of the 2007 Silver Lake Film Festival awards. Nine narrative features and nine documentary features competed for prizes with top honors going to “The Death of Michael Smith”, “American Drug War: The Last White Hope”, “Dante’s Inferno”, “The King of Kong” and “Statistics.” Eleven short films were honored as well. ------------ 25/Apr/07: PARKER POSEY AND HAL HARTLEY TO ACCEPT SPIRIT OF SILVER LAKE AWARDS. The 2007 Film Festival and MusicFest kick off with two "must-see" events on Thursday, May 3rd. The Los Angeles premiere of "Fay Grim" - the latest feature by Cannes Film Festival -winning filmmaker Hal Hartley's, and starring Parker Posey - is the focus of the Opening Night Gala presentation, starting at 7:30 pm at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater.
