In its recent celebrated Best of L.A. issue, L.A. Weekly noted that Los Angeles can now boast a film festival almost every week. "L.A. is in the midst of a film festival boom. And the competition has made almost everyone step up to the plate." Among the scores of worthy contenders. Silver Lake Film Festival was selected to be in the city's Top Five. Surprised? We don't blame you. After only five years Silver Lake Film Festival has evolved into Los Angeles' leading independent film festival. The only major, non-genre film festival singularly focused on presenting the best of independent film in the entertainment capital of the world. The only major film festival in the U.S. showcasing independent films where the majority of independent filmmakers actually live and work. Last
year we screened more than 275 independent films; hosted the nationwide
premiere of United Artists' scathingly funny "The Yes Men";
celebrated the uber independence of festival honorees Laura Dern, Mark
Ruffalo and Curtis Harrington, and debuted David O. Russell's controversial
political documentary "Soldier's Pay." Not to mention presenting
dozens of cutting-edge art, music and entertainment events. Where were
you?
"The year 2004 marked the fifth anniversary of the once rough-hewn Silver Lake Film Festival, which has outgrown its home at the Vista theater in Silver Lake and has set down roots at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood." -L.A. Weekly - Best of 2004 "Moviegoers would be hard pressed to find a more impressive fiesta of Southern California alternative chic than the SILVER LAKE FILM FESTIVAL…" - New Times "One of the few festivals devoted to discovering movies..." -Los Angeles Times "A week goes by, and another film festival is born - nothing unusual nowadays - but it doesn't happen often in the historical birth place of Hollywood." -The Hollywood Reporter "An eclectic array of pics..." -Daily Variety |
